Valentine’s Day Activities and Traditions For Kids

January 29, 2024 · In: Holidays, Seasonal Activities, Spring, Winter

Valentines Day is not only about gestures; it’s also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate love and create cherished memories with your little ones. In this blog post I am going to share with you some heartwarming traditions/activities for Valentines Day that are perfect for kids! From engaging in crafts to indulging in treats lets dive into a world of kid friendly Valentines Day activities that will fill your home with love and joy.

Decorate Your Home with Love

Transform your house into a love filled sanctuary by involving the kids in Valentines Day decorations. Together craft paper hearts, garlands and banners to create an ambiance that will delight the family. You can choose reds and pinks. Opt for an array of colors to make the decorations uniquely yours. Let the kids take charge of adorning spaces turning your home into a masterpiece overflowing with love.

Here are some suggestions I have bought and used on Amazon over the years! I normally only decorate my dining room because a lot of the activities I plan are done there.

Create Personalized Valentines Day Cards

Nurture creativity and thoughtfulness by making personalized Valentines Day cards together. Set up a crafting station with paper, markers, stickers and glitter where your children can design cards, for family members, friends and even classmates. This activity not only taps into their skills but also teaches them the joy of giving from the heart. Now you can do this DIY style or you can buy these valentine card craft kits on Amazon…both a great choices!

Valentines Day Movie Night

Create a movie night at home with a collection of heartwarming Valentines Day movies for children. Snuggle up on the sofa with blankets and pillows. Let the little ones choose their films. Timeless classics such as “Lady and the Tramp” or “Be My Valentine Charlie Brown” are guaranteed to captivate their hearts and set the mood for an evening filled with love.

Baking

Engage the kids in some Valentines Day baking fun in the kitchen. Make heart shaped cookies, cupcakes or even a cake together. Adding red frosting, sprinkles and edible glitter to decorate these goodies brings an extra layer of excitement. This delightful tradition not results in treats but also creates cherished moments and flavorful memories.

Love Notes in Lunchboxes

Spread love throughout the day by slipping notes into your child’s lunchbox. Write messages expressing your love, support and pride. You can also include treats, like heart shaped chocolates or stickers.
These valentines day facts notes are easy to use and great for older kiddos who can already read.

Heartwarming Story Time

This activity is great for littles! Set aside some time for a Valentines Day story session. Choose books that celebrate the themes of love, friendship and kindness. Reading together not cultivates a love for literature, but it also provides an opportunity to discuss important values. To make it more engaging ask your kids to pick their favorite book to share with the whole family.

Here are a few of my favorites!

Valentines Day Craft Workshop

Create an area stocked with supplies such as construction paper, glue, scissors and stickers. Encourage your children to unleash their creativity while they craft their Valentines Day masterpieces. From cards to creations this tradition not only boosts artistic flair but also provides an outlet for self expression.

Again, you can choose to do this DIY style and you can get some materials from Dollar Tree, or you can buy a craft kit on Amazon, which we do almost every year…..it’s easier! Ha! Here are a few good ones we have done before!

Family Game Night

Bring the family together for a game night dedicated to Valentines Day fun. Select games that encourage teamwork and friendly competition. Whether its a heart themed board game or a card game suitable for all ages the key is to focus on spending quality time as a family unit. This tradition reinforces the notion that love extends beyond relationships and encompasses the bonds shared within a family.

Valentines Day offers an occasion to celebrate love. These kid friendly traditions ensure that every member of the family can partake in the festivities. With crafts treats and heartwarming activities, at hand these customs transcend mere commercial aspects of the holiday – they cultivate love, foster connections and create cherished memories meant to last a lifetime.
