Preparing Our Letter of the Week Activities for Preschool

July 29, 2026 · In: Homeschool Lesson Plans, Homeschooling, Preschool

If you’ve ever tried homeschooling older children while having a toddler at home, you probably know exactly what I’m talking about.

Every morning when my boys sit down to start school, my daughter wants to be right there with them. She doesn’t necessarily need formal school yet…she’ll be three this November…but she absolutely wants to be included.

So instead of trying to keep her occupied somewhere else, I decided to create a simple preschool routine just for her.

My goal isn’t to recreate kindergarten.

My goal is to make learning fun, keep it age-appropriate, and help her build confidence while she sits alongside her big brothers during our homeschool day.

Our Letter of the Week Routine

We’re taking one letter each week and introducing it through a variety of simple activities.

Rather than doing the same worksheet every day, each activity focuses on a different skill.

Monday: Bingo Marker Letter Page

This is one of the easiest activities to set up.

Using bingo daubers helps strengthen fine motor skills while also reinforcing letter recognition.

Skills practiced:

  • Letter recognition
  • Fine motor development
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Pencil readiness

Tuesday: Sticker Letter Page

Kids love stickers, and they’re secretly one of the best fine motor activities.

She will peel and stick foam letter stickers to a construction paper or you can also cover a drawn letter using dot stickers while you talk about its name and sound.

These items can be purchased on here on my Amazon Storefront…

Skills practiced:

  • Letter recognition
  • Pincer grasp
  • Finger strength
  • Bilateral coordination

Wednesday: Cut & Paste Beginning Sounds

This activity introduces beginning sounds in a simple, visual way.

I’ll pre-cut the pieces while she’s still learning to use scissors, and eventually she’ll begin cutting them herself.

Skills practiced:

  • Beginning sound awareness
  • Vocabulary
  • Scissor skills
  • Glue practice

Thursday: Letter Stamping

Letter stamps are a fun way to reinforce recognition without asking toddlers to write letters before they’re ready.

You can find these items in my Amazon Storefront…

Skills practiced:

  • Letter recognition
  • Fine motor control
  • Hand strength
  • Letter formation

Friday: Color the Beginning Sound Picture

We’ll finish the week with a simple coloring page featuring pictures that begin with the week’s letter.

This gives us another opportunity to talk about beginning sounds while practicing coloring.

Skills practiced:

  • Beginning sounds
  • Vocabulary
  • Pencil control
  • Coloring skills

Preschool Is More Than Worksheets

These printables are only one small part of our preschool routine.

Most of our learning will happen through:

  • Reading books together
  • Playing outside
  • Sensory bins
  • Play-Doh
  • Building with blocks
  • Nature walks
  • Puzzles
  • Music and movement
  • Pretend play

The worksheets simply give her something special to do while her brothers are completing their schoolwork.

Free Preschool Resources

As I continue putting together our preschool year, I’ll be sharing more ideas here on the blog.

Some of the things I’m working on include:

  • Letter of the Week printables
  • Number activities
  • Shape activities
  • Color activities
  • Fine motor printables
  • Preschool morning basket ideas
  • Homeschooling with a toddler tips

Be sure to check back as I continue adding new resources throughout the school year!
